Caldwell Cougars Varsity Loses Lead Early In Defeat
Caldwell Cougars Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 9-0 loss to Columbia on Friday. Columbia scored on a single by Braden Ray and an stolen base in the first inning.
Columbia took an early lead in the first inning. With two outs in the first inning Braden Ray drove in one run when he singled.
Columbia scored three runs in the sixth inning. Columbia’s big inning was driven by a wild pitch and a double by Jordan Forrester.
One bright spot for Caldwell Cougars Varsity was a single by Jesse Rice in the first inning.
Colton McKinster earned the win for Columbia. He threw one inning, surrendering zero runs, zero hits, striking out two, and walking zero. Corbin Beets took the loss for Caldwell Cougars Varsity. He tossed four innings, allowing three runs, five hits, and striking out five.
Bryce Chafin started the game for Columbia. He went three innings, giving up zero runs, one hit, striking out six, and walking one.
Rice led Caldwell Cougars Varsity with one hit in three at bats.
Columbia had 11 hits in the game. McKinster, Ray, Payton Mills, and Marcus Scott each collected multiple hits for Columbia. McKinster went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Columbia in hits. Columbia stole six bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Ray led the way with two.
