Middleton Captures Lead Early To Defeat Caldwell Cougars Varsity
Caldwell Cougars Varsity fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 9-0 loss to Middleton on Friday. Middleton scored on a double by Jared Beltzer in the first inning and a groundout by Trevor Lara in the second inning.
Middleton captured the lead in the first inning. With zero outs in the first inning Jared Beltzer drove in two runs when he doubled.
Middleton scored five runs in the sixth inning. The big inning for Middleton came thanks to a double by Henry Tentinger, a single by Colton McGee, and a single by Hayden Smith.
A single by Dylan Shields in the first inning was a positive for Caldwell Cougars Varsity.
Trevor Lara earned the win for Middleton. He tossed six innings, allowing zero runs, two hits, striking out ten, and walking zero. Jesse Rice took the loss for Caldwell Cougars Varsity. He pitched four and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs, nine hits, and striking out two.
Shields went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Caldwell Cougars Varsity in hits.
Middleton collected 15 hits. Smith, Joseph Orrison, Beltzer, DJ Hagler, and Tentinger each collected multiple hits for Middleton. Smith led Middleton with three hits in five at bats. Middleton was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Braydon Mitchell made the most plays with 11.
